Our Approach

We design with nature and let the landscape lead the way.

As a small mountain farm, we shape our approach around the unique needs of this Mariposa landscape — drawing on permaculture and regenerative ideas in quiet practical ways— to build a thriving, resilient landscape that feeds our family, supports wildlife, and strengthens our community.

What that means for the community:

  • Soil that grows healthy plants: We focus on soil health first — cover crops, compost, mulching and minimal tillage to boost organic matter and biodiversity.

  • Diverse, resilient habitats: Our plantings are designed in guilds and layers —trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals work together to support pollinators, birds and beneficial insects.

  • Water that works smarter: We harvest rain capture runoff and use efficient irrigation to conserve water while keeping our land hydrated.

  • Gentle, thoughtful farming: We avoid harsh chemicals, favor natural pest management, and welcome beneficial wildlife to help protect crops.

  • A place that cares for people: We’re building a small farm store with seasonal offerings, with community in mind — education, in the form of discovery days will be offered seasonally to visitors who want to experience the gardens and landscapes on our farm. Workshops and small events that will provide more opportunities to grow together.

What guides us

  • Permaculture design: Observing, sharing and shaping the land to create interconnected, multi-functional systems

  • Regenerative practices: Building soil health, increasing biodiversity, and restoring ecosystem services to the land that improves year after year.

From soil to harvest, we’re learning as we grow —together with neighbors and visitors who want to see and learn from a thriving woodland farm that is crafted with care.

We welcome you to join us on this journey as we nurture the land, support our local small businesses economy, and cultivate a future that’s good for the people and our mountain community.
