Land Stewardship

We care for the land with patience and attention, tending it in ways that will last for generations.

Our homestead sits on foothill woodland that carries a long history — some of it beautiful, some of it in need of healing. When we arrived, the land held the remnants of old grow sites, compacted soil, and areas that had been pushed beyond their limits. Over these first two years, we’ve worked slowly and steadily to undo that damage, clearing what doesn’t belong, and giving the land room to breathe again.

Restoration in Small, Steady Steps

We work in quiet, practical ways:

  • rebuilding soil with compost and mulch

  • planting young trees and perennial guilds

  • planting native meadow species that support butterflies and pollinators

  • restoring wildlife habitat

  • observing water and shaping gentle flow

  • removing debris left from past use

Nothing rushed. Nothing forced. Just steady care.

Stewardship That Supports a Resilient Landscape

Our stewardship is rooted in permaculture and regenerative farming practices — designing with the land, not against it. We focus on:

  • improving soil health through compost and organic matter

  • increasing water retention and caring for the pond ecosystem

  • perennial systems that stabilize the land

  • choosing low‑impact methods that conserve resources

  • native plantings that support pollinators and wildlife

Fire Safety & Land Management

Our home sits along the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Forest, which means our stewardship includes steady, year‑round forestry work — clearing forest debris, reducing fuel loads, and caring for the woodland so it remains healthy and protected.

We continually focus on:

  • fuel reduction, defensible-space care, and forest management to protect the land and the wildlife that depend on it

  • raising a small herd of goats to support natural brush clearing

  • investing and maintaining in forest-grade equipment —weed-whackers, chainsaws, woodchippers —and bringing in professional help when needed

  • establishing and maintaining clear access routes for potential firefighting staging areas

Each day we work with a sense of purpose, carrying both guardianship and peace. The work is steady, but together these small acts shape a landscape that can thrive long after us.

The Land Gives Back

As the soil rebuilds and the trees take root, the land begins to offer its own gifts: herbs, flowers, fruit, and the raw materials for the simple artisan goods we make here. Everything we share — from the farmstand to handmade items — begins with this work of restoration.

Looking Ahead

We’re still early in the journey. Our goals are simple and long‑term:

  • expand the orchard

  • deepen perennial plantings

  • continue habitat restoration

  • strengthen and care for the pond ecosystem

  • build systems that support the land and our small farmstead

And as we grow, we hope to welcome others into this work.

Community Impact & Connection

We see this homestead as part of a larger ecosystem — not only of land, but of people. Our restoration work is strengthened by the community around us, and we aim to create a place where learning, collaboration, and shared stewardship can grow. As we rebuild soil, restore habitat, and care for the woodland, we also hope to offer opportunities for local families, volunteers, and future homesteaders to engage with the land through workshops, seasonal gatherings, and hands‑on learning. By sharing what we’re building here, we contribute to a more resilient local food system, stronger ecological awareness, and a community connected by care for the land.

Our Hope for the Future

We care for this land with the long view in mind. Every tree we plant, every bit of soil we rebuild, every corner we restore is done with the hope that this place will outlast us. We feel a deep responsibility to revitalize what was damaged, to watch over what is healing, and to preserve this land for the generations who will walk here after us.

This homestead is our work today, but it’s also our gift forward — a place tended with intention, protected with care, and shaped so that future hands can continue what we’ve begun.

Thank you for your support. Your contribution helps us continue our restoration work and supports our long‑term commitment to caring for this land.
